Currency watch

When the Canadian dollar moves, Canadian camera prices usually follow weeks later. This page tracks the official rate daily and points out where that lag may matter. Everything here is an estimate, not a promise that a price will change.

Rate moved, prices haven't

CAD moved 1.5% against the USD over 30 days, under the 2.5% threshold, so no price flags today.

How it works: when the Canadian dollar moves more than 2.5% against the US dollar over 30 days, we list Canadian new-gear prices (from 839 models we track at The Camera Store) that haven't changed in that time. They may adjust: dealers often reprice when new stock arrives at the new exchange rate, but many hold prices, and manufacturers set Canadian MAP prices on their own schedule. We need at least two weeks of our own price history before listing anything (1 days so far).

US price gap (estimated landed cost)

No US-priced offers are being compared yet. We only use US prices we're allowed to use: an affiliate product feed or the official eBay API (currently: skipped (no API keys)). We don't scrape stores that forbid it.

Estimate only. Landed cost = US price × today's Bank of Canada rate + shipping (default estimate $40 if the seller doesn't say) + courier brokerage (estimate $25) + 5% GST. Estimate uses 5% GST (AB, BC, MB, SK, QC, territories; BC/MB/SK/QC provincial sales tax may also apply). HST provinces pay 13% (ON) or 15% (NB, NL, NS, PE) instead. Most cameras and lenses enter Canada duty-free, but check the item's tariff code; couriers usually add a brokerage fee, estimated here, unless the seller ships duty-paid (DDP). Card foreign-exchange fees (often 2.5%), US warranty coverage in Canada and return shipping are not included. Flagged only when the estimate is at least 5% and $50 below the cheapest Canadian price.
